PAYMENTS IN ITALY
Cards: Most businesses (hotels, restaurants, shops) accept debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard). However, American Express is not accepted everywhere.
Cash: It’s always a good idea to have some cash on hand, especially for small purchases, coffees, shopping at local markets, or in remote villages of the Dolomites.
Mobile Payments: Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted in many places, but not everywhere – you should not be relied on exclusively.
Cash Withdrawal
You can withdraw euros from ATMs (“bancomat”) using their debit or credit card. There is usually a fee (2–3 euros or a percentage-based fee).
It’s best to make larger withdrawals less frequently to reduce fees.
WEATHER
The weather in the Dolomites during this period is generally favorable for hiking and outdoor activities, with mild temperatures and relatively stable weather conditions.
Average daytime temperature: Around 18–20°C in the valleys.
At higher altitudes (e.g., 2000 m): Daytime temperatures range between 10–15°C, while at night they can drop below zero. Sudden heavy rain showers may occur.
INSURANCE
-
It is very useful and important to carry your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you.
- However, this card does not cover search and rescue operations related to extreme sports, such as skiing or mountain hiking.”
-
For such activities, it is highly recommended to purchase private travel insurance that includes coverage for extreme sports.
-
Entopia Project provides Civil Liability Insurance, but not private travel insurance.
