Wander through one of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites, the Archaeological Park and Museum of Dion. Feel the energy that fills the space and ‘travel’ back in time. Take a dive in the mythical waters of the river Orlias and admire the waterfalls under the shadow of the mythical Mount Olympus. Enjoy the view and the tranquility of nature with a cup of coffee and flavors from Greece.

Learn this too:

Dion. The sacred city of the Macedonians and the sanctuary of Zeus in the area of Olympus. It reached its peak during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, as it was one of the earliest Roman colonies in the Macedonian region. During the time of Alexander the Great, Dion had significant importance for Macedonia and Greece in general. It was there that Philip II celebrated the capture and destruction of Olynthus, the capital of the Chalkidiki League. In the same place, Alexander the Great invoked the help of the gods, while he was making the ceremonial preparations for his military campaign in Asia.

Very close to Dion, there is the Orlias stream and the famous waterfalls. Their existence is due to the river that flows there, called Elikonas or Orlias. It was named because of the noise, roar, or rumble that the river essentially causes.

According to the myth, the river Elikonas was an ancient river of Pieria that disappeared due to its shame. The reason for its shame was that it refused to purify the Maenads -the raging women of Zeus- who wanted to wash their hands from the blood of Orpheus, whom they had killed earlier at Dion.
