Epirus

It originates from the adjective "ἄπειρος," which means "infinite," and refers to a vast expanse of land.

Epirus is located in the northwestern part of Greece and borders the southeast with Central Greece, the east with Thessaly, and the northeast with Macedonia. On the northwest side, it borders Albania, while the entire western and southwestern side is washed by the Ionian Sea and the Ambracian Gulf. It’s an area of land with beautiful beaches that blend into mountains, where you can enjoy their exceptional natural beauty. For nature enthusiasts, Epirus is a paradise. It consists of 4 prefectures: Arta, Thesprotia, Ioannina, and Preveza. The largest mountain range in Epirus, which is also the most significant in all of Greece, is the Pindus Mountains.

Untouched Beauty: two words that encapsulate the essence of this place, an ideal destination for those who love nature. Majestic mountains, traditional villages, rivers, and lakes, picturesque bridges, and the national parks of Pindus (Valia Calda) and Vikos-Aoos. From the atmospherically and touristically developed Zagori villages to the lesser-known Mastorochoria, the alternative Konitsa, and the obscure villages of Pogoni. From Katsanochoria to Tzoumerka, which are gaining more and more admirers. From Arta with its famous bridge and beautiful mountain villages to the rare ecosystem of Ambracian Gulf. From Preveza and the Archaeological Site of Nikopolis with its new museum to the sources of Acheron and the Nekromanteion. From the cosmopolitan resorts of Parga, Sivota, and Perdika to the quaint fishing village of Syvota at the northernmost point of the coastline.

Wild rivers, lakes, wetlands, and snow-capped mountains constitute a protected natural environment hosting an incredible variety of wildlife. Wolves and brown bears still roam this land, while golden eagles soar through its skies. Hundreds of rare species of wildflowers thrive undisturbed. The vast natural forests of the national parks shelter dozens of bird species. The people of Epirus take pride in their region, its wildlife, and its unique wetlands, and they work diligently to preserve it.

Epirus faces the sea, the beautiful Ionian Sea with its crystal-clear waters and lace-like coastlines. Epirus is a place of rare natural beauty that offers serenity and tranquility. The area is rich in traces of its grand and illustrious history. The past comes alive in its archaeological sites, numerous monasteries and churches, castles, and traditional villages. It can be seen in the watermills, sawmills, and hundreds of stone bridges. In all these images lies the soul of Epirus, a journey for every season and every traveler.
