We begin our adventure in the Dolomites, the magical mountain range of northern Italy, where nature reveals its most dramatic side. With hiking boots on and backpacks ready, we kick off our road trip at the iconic Le Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where alpine landscapes look like they’ve been taken straight from a movie scene. Our journey continues to the serene Lago di Misurina, a peaceful lake framed by pine trees and towering peaks.

The adventure winds through Passo Giau, one of the most scenic mountain routes, leading us to the stunning rock formations of Cinque Torri, where every turn reveals another breathtaking view. And since no road trip is complete without a bit of fun, we’ll let loose on the thrilling FunBob Auronzo, where speed and excitement go hand in hand.

We reach Cortina d’Ampezzo, the “Queen of the Dolomites,” a cosmopolitan destination blending natural beauty with cultural elegance. From there, we’ll venture to Lago de Federa on a picturesque hike, and then climb higher to experience Capanna Alpina, following an alpine loop through valleys, lakes, and breathtaking mountain huts.

Our journey leads us to charming villages like San Vito di Cadore and Valle di Cadore, where cobbled streets, local cuisine, and Alpine rhythms set the mood. Of course, no trip to the Dolomites is complete without visiting the picture-perfect Lago di Braies, or the tranquil Lago di Dobbiaco, perfect for a lakeside picnic or a moment of calm.

We wrap up our road trip with a final forest walk to the dreamy Lago di Carezza and Lago di Mezzo, along peaceful trails that feel like the closing pages of a fairy tale. Pack your bag — the Dolomites are calling.

Learn this too:

Did you know that the Dolomites were once… underwater? Around 250 million years ago, the towering peaks of today were actually submerged beneath a tropical sea. The jagged rock formations we see now were formed from ancient coral reefs and marine sediments, which over time were pushed upward by powerful tectonic forces.

Their unique composition — a light-colored rock called dolomitic limestone — doesn’t just give these mountains their distinctive glow at sunrise and sunset. It also makes them a geological treasure. In fact, the Dolomites are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their exceptional natural and geological significance.

So next time you hike through the Dolomites, remember: you’re walking on the remnants of ancient oceans!

ITINERARY

  • Day 1

Meeting at the Venice airport (Marco Polo or Treviso). From there, we will transfer with our van to the quiet little village of Perarolo di Cadore, nearly in the heart of the Dolomites,  where we will stay for the following days. We will settle into our lovely house and rest.

  • Day 2

The next day, after we wake up, we will enjoy our breakfast and then set off for Rifugio Auronzo, from where today’s hike will begin—considered one of the most beautiful hikes in the Dolomites, Le Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The adventure in the Dolomites begins. Our hike will take place in alpine terrain, surrounded by the three peaks of Lavaredo. We will cover approximately 10 km with an elevation gain of about 500 meters. Afterwards, we will return to the van and head to a beautiful and well-known lake, Lake Misurina. There, we will relax and either sit by the shore for a picnic or go to a restaurant to enjoy Italian pizza.

  • Day 3

The next day, after we wake up, we will get ready and depart for a unique hike from Passo Giau to the Cinque Torri. An alpine route of stunning beauty that passes through beautiful mountain huts, towering stone towers, and unique viewpoints. We will cover a total of 11 kilometers with an elevation gain of 620 meters. During the hike, we will relax at mountain huts, and the photos we capture will be truly breathtaking. Afterwards, we will visit one of the nearby picturesque villages for a walk and a meal.

  • Day 4

Today will be a day of relaxation, fun, and strolling. After we wake up in the morning and enjoy our breakfast, we will get in the van and head to a park where we will experience moments of laughter and fun. We will ride a small train that goes down a huge meadow at 45 kilometers per hour — a unique experience that will make us feel like kids again. Afterwards, we will head for a short but beautiful hike to Lago di Federa, where we will admire a unique and stunning lake. Once we return to the van, we will head to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the queen of the Italian Dolomites a beautiful, historic alpine area that combines cosmopolitan charm with romance. There, we will walk, relax, and enjoy our meal and coffee.

  • Day 5

The next morning, we will have our breakfast and set off for Capanna Alpina, where we will do a wonderful circular alpine route with breathtaking views. Our route will take us through beautiful valleys, lakes, and high peaks, as well as through lovely mountain huts where we can relax for a while before meeting up with our van again. The route is a total of 12 kilometers with 700 meters of elevation gain. Afterwards, we will transfer to a nearby picturesque village to enjoy a pleasant walk, have a meal, and relax.

  • Day 6

The next day, after enjoying our breakfast, we will set off for a must-do hike and perhaps the most famous hike in the Dolomites — Lago di Braies. A route that combines views, forest, and of course the beautiful lake Lago di Braies. The route is a total of 11 kilometers with 600 meters of elevation gain. Afterwards, we will visit Lake Lago di Dobbiaco, where, depending on our mood, we will either go for a short hike or relax on its shores, enjoying a picnic or going to one of the nearby restaurants for food and coffee.

  • Day 7

Today is our last day. After we wake up and enjoy our breakfast, we will set off for the town of Carezza. From there, we will begin a beautiful short hike to the lakes Lago di Carezza and Lago di Mezzo, following an accessible trail with truly stunning views. Our route will have a total distance of 8 kilometers with an elevation gain of 180 meters. Afterwards, we will visit a nearby village for a walk and a meal.

  • Day 8

Unfortunately, all things eventually come to an end, and our trip to the Dolomites has come to its conclusion. After we wake up in the morning, we will pack our things and depart for the Venice airport, where we will return the van so that everyone can catch their flight and head back to their destination.
